Abby Wambach, two-time Olympic gold medalist, FIFA Women's World Cup Champion, and the 2012 FIFA World Player of the Year, will be visiting Ann Arbor this weekend as part of a national book tour to promote her new memoir, Forward.
Literati Bookstore will be hosting Wambach at Rackham Auditorium Saturday, September 17th at 7pm, for an interview with Doug Tribou, the host of Morning Edition on Michigan Radio.
AFC Ann Arbor Head Coach & Sporting Director Eric Rudland will be presenting Abby with an authentic AFC Ann Arbor kit after the interview. Having just ended its second season with an NPSL playoff appearance, AFC Ann Arbor is becoming a unifying influence for soccer in Ann Arbor and Southeast Michigan. The team is honored to partner with the superstar for her appearance.
Coach Rudland added, “This Saturday is going to be a great event for all of SE Michigan. It’s massive to have a world-class player, such as Abby, come share her experiences with us right here in Ann Arbor. And it demonstrates the strength of the soccer community here in our city, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.”
A six-time winner of the U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year award, Wambach has been a regular on the U.S. women's national soccer team since 2003, earning her first cap in 2001. As a forward, she currently stands as the highest all time scorer for the national team and holds the world record for international goals for both female and male soccer players with 184 goals.
