What is afc ann arbor all about?

Association Football Club Ann Arbor is an elite amateur soccer club owned and operated by a diverse group of entrepreneurs, soccer fans and sports professionals. Originally founded in 2014 by Jamey Amrine, the club now operates through its board of directors and a group of dedicated volunteers. We are driven to make an impact in our community, with an emphasis on creating opportunity for our players all while focusing on building the AFC Ann Arbor family.

We are dedicated towards fighting racism within soccer and in our community. Beginning in 2020, we lead conversations about building anti-racist soccer clubs and how we can make actual impact on the pitch and in the community.

Community. - Since our inception, we have hosted a number of refugee youth clinics and camps, supported a refugee youth club with resources and time, visited hundreds of classrooms across the county and developed a statewide program to introduce and teach the beautiful game to those who may not have had the opportunity before (Community Kicks). We see ourselves as a platform for people within the community that want to help our youth or who want to grow the game. One of our key initiatives was launching The Mighty Oak Youth Project (TMOYP), a non-profit set out to disrupt the current flow of ideas and thoughts in the soccer space. TMOYP has provided youth soccer scholarships to local families in need as well as women’s coaching scholarships in hopes to increase the number of women who are interested in pursuing coaching as their career.

Opportunity. - We believe in helping our players grow on and off the pitch. While in Ann Arbor, we have a number of community service projects, internships and events that players participate in to give them the opportunity to grow as a person. The club also works diligently to open doors for those players looking to push on to the professional level. On the men’s side, AFCAA have seen 18 players push on to professional careers after spending time with our club. As we continue to deepen our roots, we are focused on creating more opportunity for our players both on and off the pitch. On the women’s side, Mami Yamguchi was the recipient of the first women’s coaching scholarship (helping her earn her USSF C License), from TMOYP women’s scholarships which will continue to support the advancement of women’s coaches.

Family. - We are a family oriented club which means are match day environment is created specifically for families to come and enjoy. It also means that within our organization, we operate with a family culture which means that our players, coaches, staff, supporters and community partners are all unified in their love for the game and of course, AFC Ann Arbor.
